150 medical centres for Amarnath pilgrims

The J&K administration has established at least 150 medical centres along the route to the holy Amarnath cave shrine for the pilgrims. The healthcare facilities have been set up at both Chandanwadi and Baltal routes and also along the highway from Lakhanpur to Banihal. “Quality infrastructure and highly skilled staff trained in critical and high altitude medicine shall be deployed,” said Manoj Dwivedi, Principal Secretary, General Administration Department.

Around 1,500 health workers will be deployed in three phases, including doctors and paramedics from outside J&K, Dwivedi said.

In the Jammu division, at least 70 health facilities have been identified where all arrangements have been made, officials said.

The facilities have been established in all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir through which pilgrims will pass.

At least 55 medical stations have been established in Kashmir, including six base hospitals, 11 medical aid centres, 12 emergency aid centres and 26 oxygen booths.

Besides, two 70-bedded hospitals, equipped with ICU facility, have been set up at Baltal and Chandanwari. In Kashmir, the Health Department will deploy 1,559 staff members for yatra duties.

The government has also deployed 600 workers who have been trained in high altitude emergency.
