New Delhi, September 17

Ahead of the special session of Parliament commencing here from Monday, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday hoisted the National Flag at the entrance of the New Parliament House building.

The Vice-President was accompanied by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge was not present. Earlier, in a letter to the Rajya Sabha Chairman, Kharge said he received the invite for the event only on September 15 evening and could not arrive.

Dhankhar described the occasion as the heralding of a new beginning, from one glorious legacy to another in Bharat’s Amrit Kaal, the 25-year journey up to the centenary of India’s Independence in 2047.

Hoisting the National Flag at the ‘Gaja Dwar’ of the New Parliament Building today, Dhankhar said, “This is a historic moment and a milestone development. Bharat is witnessing epochal change and the world is in total recognition of the might, power and contribution of Bharat.”

The Vice-President added that we are living in times where we are witnessing development and achievements which we never dreamt of.

“Our ground reality today is being reflected globally in the most affirmative manner,” Dhankhar said.

Union ministers, Members of Parliament across the political spectrum, Secretary-Generals of the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha were also present to witness the moment.

It is learnt that the special session may commence in the old and end in the new Parliament building.
