New Delhi, February 4

After West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee said the Congress would not be able to win even 40 seats in the country, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took a jibe at the party’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’, saying that though “big events” were taking place, his party was not being invited to them.

Will share yatra schedule: Congress

Responding to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav’s remarks, the Congress on Sunday said the yatra’s programme in Uttar Pradesh would be shared with INDIA bloc constituents after it was finalised in a day or two and asserted that their participation would strengthen the alliance.

The comments from key constituents of the INDIA bloc seem to have put a question mark on the future of the grouping.

Yadav said this in on Saturday in response to a question on whether he would join the yatra when it enters Uttar Pradesh. The SP leader said he was yet to get any invitation for the yatra by Rahul Gandhi.

His comments come even as the Congress and the Samajwadi Party are holding seat-sharing talks in Uttar Pradesh for the Lok Sabha elections, which are scheduled in April.

“The problem is that we don’t get invited to many big events. So how do we ask for an invitation ourselves?” Yadav told reporters when asked whether he would join the yatra when it enters the state.

The SP chief’s comments have come at a time when the Congress has been maintaining a stoic silence on Banerjee’s comments where she announced that the TMC won’t share seats with the Congress for the polls.

Banerjee had also said she was reviewing her party’s membership of the INDIA bloc.
