Lt Gen Sandeep Jain takes over as Commandant of Indian Military Academy

He takes over from Lt Gen VK Mishra of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, who superannuated from service on January 31

Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain of the Mahar Regiment assumed charge as the 52nd Commandant of the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun on February 1.

He takes over from Lt Gen VK Mishra of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, who superannuated from service on January 31.

On taking over the reins of the academy, he paid tributes at the IMA War Memorial in a solemn ceremony.

Commissioned in June 1988, Lt Gen Jain has tenated important command appointments in varied sensitive operational sectors. He has commanded his battalion in semi developed terrain and has been a sector commander with a United Nations Mission, commanded an infantry brigade in a strike corps.

As a major general, he commanded a counter insurgency force in Jammu and Kashmir and as lieutenant general, commanded 16 Corps.

He has also served with the Military Operations Directorate, Military Secretary's Branch and as a Military observer in Ethiopia.

Lt Gen Jain is an alumni of the National Defence College in Kenya and has been decorated with the Sena Medal and awarded Chief of the Army Staff's Commendation Card.
