New Delhi, January 17

India and the US have released what is called an ‘Open RAN Acceleration Roadmap’ that lays down use of next-generation telecom technologies for 5G and future 6G mobile usage.

The Ministry of Communications said today: “Both sides concurred on joint efforts in next-generation communication technologies, marking a significant stride.” It said Telecom Secretary Neeraj Mittal had a meeting with US Deputy NSA Ann Neuberger in the US.

The meeting resulted in the formalisation and release of the ‘Open RAN accelerated road-map’. The agreement promotes collaboration for interoperability and scaled deployments of products classified as ‘Open RAN’, the ministry said. ‘Open RAN’ — Radio Access Network — is a telecom industry term for mobile network architecture that enables service providers on components.
