New Delhi, March 6

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said the NDA government has been successful in containing inflation below 5 per cent, which had touched double-digit figures during the Congress-led UPA regime.

He further said that prior to 2014, the Indian economy was fragile, inflation was high and fiscal deficit was beyond control. He made these comments while addressing the India Global Forum’s annual investment summit NXT10 in Mumbai.

“The Sonia-Manmohan government was there for 10 years. A few columnists used to say that the government suffered from ‘policy paralysis’. It wasn’t clear who was leading the government. Every minister considered themselves as prime minister... They failed to make any policy in 10 years. Whereas Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made over 40 policies in his 10-year rule,” Shah said.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India has become self-confident, self-reliant and moved away from dormant to dynamic governance. From regressive to progressive growth and from fragile to top economy,” he said.

The minister exuded confidence that none of the rating agencies could predict the potential of the country, as the NDA government had laid such a strong foundation.

“No rating agency can imagine a change on such a mass scale. Investment comes on the basis of government, leader and policies and India will get 100 out of 100 on all these three factors,” Shah said.
