New Delhi, February 27

A 46-metre truck-mounted modular bridge was inducted into the Army on Tuesday, starting the process of induction of 41 such bridges over the next four years. Designed and developed by the DRDO and produced by Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the bridging system was formally handed over during a ceremony at Manekshaw Centre here.

The project is worth Rs 2,585 crore. The modular bridges will replace the manually launched medium girder bridges currently being used by the Army.

The bridges can be employed over various types of obstacles like canals and ditches with quick launching and retrieval capabilities. The equipment is highly mobile, versatile, rugged and capable of keeping pace with wheeled and tracked mechanised vehicles, the Army said.
