After a video of a Rajasthan Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Priyanka Talania, of arguing with a doctor at a community health centre gone viral on the Internet, the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Punjab, in a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Hanumangarh district in Rajasthan has condemned her misbehaviour with an on-duty doctor.

Dr Navjot Dahiya, president, IMA, Punjab, in the letter requested the DC to take action against the officer and said the attitude of SDM reveals arrogance of power.

“She should be made aware that a senior officer cannot sit on the chair meant for a junior officer. The respect is always given to the chair not to the person,” he said.

IMA state secretary Paramjit Singh Maan said the SDM interfered in the normal functioning of the doctor by bragging of the powers given in the present set-up. He said the officer’s attitude was unacceptable. “Society needs doctors from birth till death. No officer has the right to demoralise the doctors who are giving their services in adverse circumstances without proper facilities,” he said.

Doctors under the IMA, Punjab, including Dr Bhagwant, Dr Vikas, Dr GS Gill, Dr Rakesh Vig, Dr Yogeshwar, Dr SPS Sooch, Dr Rajendra Sharma and Dr Jatinder Kansal asked the Rajasthan Deputy Commisioner to personally look into the matter and do the needful.
