Illicit liquor seized in four years destroyed

The Excise and Taxation Department yesterday destroyed illicit liquor seized during 2010-2011 and 2015-2016.

The destroyed liquor included 2,198 boxes (26,376 bottles) of countrymade liquor and 8,796 boxes (1,05,552 bottles) of English wine. A total of 10,994 boxes and 1,31,928 bottles were destroyed.

The entire exercise was completed under the supervision of a committee comprising excise and taxation officers Sukhwinder Singh from Nawanshahr, Navjot Bharti from Jalandhar and Hanuwant Singh from Hoshiarpur.

Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner (DETC) Shalin Walia said there was not any case pending of destroyed illicit liquor and the three-member committee had carefully supervised the entire process.

The liquor that was kept for so long was unfit for consumption. Walia said illegal liquor seized from 2016-17 till now would be destroyed next month. — TNS
