Staff crunch led to slip in ranking: VC

Experts say that Himachal Pradesh University's (HPU) decision to reverse to the annual system from semester system in 2018 could be one of the reasons for its slipping from 164th to 169th position in the NIRF ranking. However, university Vice Chancellor Prof Sikander Kumar said the ranking was based on data from 2016 to 2019 and in 2016-17, complete data was not uploaded, which reflected in the ranking. Besides, there was shortage of teaching and non-teaching staff. “We are working towards filling vacant posts of teachers and non-teaching employees and over 4,500 applications have been received for 354 teaching posts. The process was halted due to Covid as the experts have to come from other states. In addition, the university has advertised over 200 posts of non-teaching employees and the ranking will definitely improve next year,” he added.
