With 180 cases, count goes past 5,500 in Himachal

The surge in Covid cases in the state continued with 180 persons testing positive today, taking the total tally to 5,501.

With the death of a person due to Covid in Una, the total number of fatalities rose to 31.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health) RD Dhiman said a woman from Kinnaur, who had been cured of coronavirus, died at the IGMC due to other ailments.

He said two deaths in Sirmaur would be counted in Chandigarh.

The highest number of 51 cases were reported in Solan, followed by 37 in Sirmaur, 25 in Kangra, 23 in Hamirpur, 11 in Una, 10 in Chamba and nine in Shimla, besides other districts.

2 of Sirmaur die of Covid

A 41-year-old woman, who was admitted to a private hospital in Chandigarh since August 17 due to breathing discomfort, succumbed to Covid-19 this morning. She had multiple organ failure.

The victim was an employee of a pharma company at Paonta Sahib. DC, Sirmaur, RK Pruthi said the woman was cremated by her family members in Chandigarh.

In another case, a 67-year old man died at Rajgarh this morning. He was suffering from liver cirrhosis and was found infected with Covid-19 while undergoing treatment at the PGI, Chandigarh. He returned to his native place at Rajgarh last evening against medical advice and died this morning.

The DC said that since his son brought him back without a Covid-negative test report, a legal action would be taken against him.

37 infected in Sirmaur

Thirtyseven Covid positive cases, including three children aged 7,8 and 9 years, were detected in Sirmaur district, taking the tally of positive cases to 755 with 225 active cases.

DC RK Pruthi said there were 22 cases from Nahan and 15 from Paonta Sahib.

One HRTC employee from Nahan was among those who tested positive. There were 10 cases from United Biscuits company, four from Gnosis Pharma, three from AR Industries and two cases from outdoor patient department of medical college, Nahan.

In Paonta Sahib, three cases were from Killor and 12 are from Ajoli, Jwalapur, Muglawala, Haripur Tohana and other nearby places.

25 cases in Kangra

Twentyfive persons, including three women health workers, tested positive for coronavirus in Kangra district on Thursday.

Villager cremated, found +ve

The fear of spread of coronavirus loomed at Pansai village in Hamirpur after the cremation of a Covid patient without following the protocol.

A resident of Pansai had died in government hospital, Una, yesterday. Before handing over his body to family members, his sample was taken for the coronavirus test.

The body was brought to the village and was cremated. It was only after the cremation that his sample was found positive.

The villager was suffering from cold. It was learnt that he used to socialise in the village. He had also visited Community Health Centre, Galore, before leaving for Una to see his daughter.
