Western disturbances to trigger another spell of rain, snow in Himachal from March 11

There’s a possibility of another spell of precipitation in the state from March 11 as two back-to-back western disturbances are likely to hit the western Himalayan region. While the first western disturbance will hit the region from the night of March 10, the other will arrive on the night of March 12. The western disturbances will trigger rain and snowfall at a few places in mid and high hills.

Even as the weather is likely to remain dry for the next three days, the Met Department has issued a yellow alert for the next five to six days over the possibility of avalanches at isolated places in the districts of Chamba, Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti. In the last spell of precipitation, several incidents of avalanche were reported from Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur districts.

At present, several places in higher hills have lower than normal higher temperatures. In places like Shimla, Bhuntar, Kalpa, Mandi, Manali and Dalhousie, the maximum temperature is 2.5°C to 8°C lower than normal.

Meanwhile, mild snowfall was witnessed in a few high altitude and tribal areas. In the past 24 hours, Kalpa in Kinnaur district recorded 3.8 cm deep snow, while Manali was the wettest with 10 mm of rain, followed by 2.2 mm at Bhuntar and 1 mm at Pandoh.
