Dharamsala, July 15

Two paragliders had a miraculous escape in Dharamsala on Wednesday after their paragliding gears got trapped in pine trees near Indrunag hill.

Both locals, the paragliders had taken off from Indrunag hill in the afternoon and got stuck amid trees a little after taking flight. The duo were rescued by locals and none of them suffered any serious injury.

Sources said the paragliders failed to find wind thermals after jumping from the cliff as the weather was cloudy. Instead of going up, they started descending immediately after take-off, it is learnt.

Tandem paragliding is carried out for tourists from the hill by local youths.

When winds are favourable, it takes about 15 minutes for paragliders to land in vacant fields near Dari-Khaniara roads after take-off from the cluff.

The sport is a huge hit among tourists visiting Dharamsala. The tandem flights, however, remain banned since Covid lockdown was imposed in the state. The paragliders who met with an accident on Wednesday were themselves practising.
