Solan, April 12

Dr Parvinder Singh Arora, Additional District and Sessions Judge-POCSO Court, Solan, sentenced Mani Kashyap, who hails from Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh, to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2018. A penalty of Rs 10,000 was also imposed on him.

The victim, who was 16 years of age in 2018, was residing in a rented accommodation at Baddi when the offence took place. The accused approached her in January 2018 and told her that he liked her and wanted to marry her. She, however, refused his offer but he repeatedly pestered her for friendship and marriage.

On June 17, 2018, the accused took her to his room and raped her. On June 19, he forcibly took her to his sister-in-law’s house in Punjab and stayed there for a day. He again raped her and left the place the following day. Later, he took the girl to various places for a month and continued to commit the crime.

The victim wanted to speak to her father over the phone but he did not allow her. She finally managed to talk to her father and conveyed to him her plight. The Baddi police intercepted the duo on July 26 upon their arrival. The girl was handed over to her parents.
