Two women die of Covid in Himachal

Two women succumbed to coronavirus while 31 new cases were reported from the state today, taking the total number of positive cases to 3,497. The total number of Covid deaths has risen to 16.

The highest number of 19 cases were reported from Sirmaur, 14 from Chamba, six from Kangra, three each from Solan and one each from Kullu, Mandi and Hamirpur.

Baddi woman dies in PGI

A 52-year-old woman from Baddi died at the PGI, Chandigarh, last evening after testing positive for Covid-19.

She was reportedly suffering from chest pain and had visited a private hospital at Baddi yesterday evening where her ECG test confirmed a cardiac problem. She was taken to Alchemist hospital from Baddi but doctors there referred her to the PGI, Chandigarh. She tested Covid-positive at the PGI last evening and later died.

Dr KD Jassal, Medical Officer, Nalagarh, said that the elementary cause of her death did not seem to be Covid, as she was suffering from a cardiac problem. They were inquiring into the matter, he added.

The Baddi SP said the primary contacts of the woman, who resided at Sun City at Baddi, were being identified. The colony had been sanitised and her house had been sealed, he added.

Another victim from Mandi

A Covid patient died in Nerchowk medical college in Mandi. Patient Kamlesh Kumari (78) belonged to Sandhol in Mandi. The victim had a travel history from Panchkula, Haryana.

According to the medical college authorities, the patient was admitted to the medical college on August 10 and her condition was critical. She died in the hospital due to the infection.

Jeevanand Chauhan, Senior Medical Superintendent of the medical college, Mandi, said the patient was diabetic and suffering from hypertension.

“The family of the deceased was informed about her death. Her cremation was conducted at Nerchowk with the safety protocol,” he added.

19 infected in Sirmaur

Nineteen cases, including a 3-year-old boy and his parents, tested Covid positive in Sirmaur district.

DC RK Pruthi said of the cases, one woman was from Nahan. She was the contact of an earlier positive patient from an industrial unit at Kala Amb.

The seven were from Paonta Sahib and were in the age group of 3 to 55 years. Those from Paonta Sahib were the contacts of the Power Minister, who had tested positive last week.

The DC said only 10 per cent of the samples drawn yesterday had tested positive. The recovery rate in the district was 75.57 per cent which was among the best in the state.

3 cases from Solan

Three cases, including a 35-year old woman, were detected Covid positive in Solan district. These included an inter-state traveller from Solan, a 35-year-old woman, who is the contact of an earlier positive patient.

14 catch virus in Chamba

As many as 14 persons tested positive for in Chamba district and four in Kangra district.

In Chamba, the patients were the residents of the Dharog locality in the town. In the last one week, about 80 residents of the locality have tested positive.

All of them were primary and secondary contacts of positive patients. The locality has been converted into a containment zone.

A resident of Bhadwal village near Kangra with travel history from West Bengal, another man and woman of Lag Badhana village near Dehra, and 32-year-old man of Naleti village near Dehra, with travel history from Baddi were found infected.
