A tourist died at Sarchu due to high-altitude sickness on Sunday. Sources said the victim was on his way to Lahaul from Leh side when his health deteriorated at Sarchu. He was taken to an Army transit camp for health check-up, where doctor on duty declared him dead.

In a separate incident, seven tourists were rescued from Takcha on Gramphu-Kaza road in tribal district Lahaul and Spiti in the evening.

According to police, due to sudden snowfall near Kunzum pass, the vehicle, they were travelling in stuck on the road at Takcha. Locals cleared the road and rescued all seven from the area at Losar.

Lahaul and Spiti SP Manav Verma said no tourist was stranded now on Manali-Leh highway and Gramphu-Kaza highway.

He said due to fresh snowfall at Baralacha pass on Manali-Leh highway and at Kunzum pass on Gramphu-Kaza highway, traffic movement is blocked on both routes.
