Dharamsala, February 3

Tibetan activists held a protest march in McLeodganj today to condemn the International Olympic Committee decision for hosting the upcoming Winter Olympics 2022 in Beijing.

The activists from Tibetan NGOs organised a streetplay to express anger and disappointment. The play symbolised Chinese president Xi Jinping and IOC president Thomas Bach joining hands ignoring the sufferings of the Tibetans, the Taiwanese, the Uyghurs, the southern Mongolians and Hong Kong residents.

The activists alleged that they believed hosting the games in a country committing genocide and ethnic cleansing was akin to legitimising these crimes. Crackdown against democracy and human rights had intensified across China and the countries it occupied. Despite that, the IOC had chosen to ignore these facts.

The Tibetan Youth Congress, the Tibetan Women’s Association, the Students for Free Tibet, the National Democratic Party of Tibet and the Guchusum Association of former political prisoners of Tibet jointly organised the event.
