Mandi, March 7

The Kaza administration today evacuated 205 stranded tourists out of the snowbound Spiti valley to Kinnaur district.

These tourists had been stuck in the Spiti valley for the last five days after heavy snowfall, which had blocked roads for traffic movement. Power supply was snapped and mobile phone and telecommunication services were also disrupted, which disconnected these stranded tourists from their families.

As weather improved, the Border Roads Organisation started the snow-clearing work and restored traffic movement between Kaza and Kinnaur today for the movement of 4x4 vehicles.

Lahaul and Spiti SP Mayank Chaudhary said that the Kaza administration had evacuated 205 tourists with the help of the BRO and the police. A few tourists were staying in Spiti, as per their own wish. The police also helped some tourists to speak with their families through satellite phones, which gave a sigh of relief to the families of stranded tourists.

The SP said that the police were ready to help tourists visiting Lahaul and Spiti. However, tourists were advised to sincerely follow the instructions of the district administration.
