Start MBBS at AIIMS from December, says JP Nadda

BJP national president JP Nadda along with Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today inspected the ongoing construction work at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Kothipura in Bilaspur.

He expressed satisfaction that despite the Covid-19 crisis, the construction work was going on smoothly and was likely to be completed by December 2021. Nadda said the institute would provide specialised health services to the people of the state.

He said efforts should be made to start MBBS classes in AIIMS next month. He added that it was a matter of pride that 18 doctors from the state had been selected for the health institute.

The Chief Minister said the state was committed to extending all assistance to the institute. The state would also examine the demand of electricity bill waiver for the institute. They had already released Rs 73 crore for providing power and Rs 65 crore for water supply to the hospital, he added.

He said the institute would prove to be a milestone in strengthening health services in the state. Thakur thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nadda for making an adequate budgetary provision for its construction.

While making a presentation, The Director of the PGI, Chandigarh, Dr Jagat Ram, said that there would be 100 MBBS seats in the institute and classes would start in December. Thereafter, efforts would be made to start OPD services in January 2021.

He said AIIMS, Bilaspur, would have 750 beds, 183 faculty members and 600 nurses. A temporary electricity sub-station had been established in the institute.
