Sports tourney opens at Manali

KULLU, JULY 5

Education and Art, Language and Culture Minister Govind Singh Thakur presided over the opening ceremony of Under-19 block-level sports tourney (girls) in Government Senior Secondary School, Bran, in Manali today. He inaugurated a sports competition by lighting a lamp and extended his best wishes to girl participants. He took the salute from the parade taken out by students.

“If we look at the recent results of Class XII and Class X examinations, the girls have proved their mettle. Girls are not less than anyone in sports as well,” he said, adding “In the Olympics also, girls proved themselves by bringing medals.”

The minister said that students should include yoga and pranayama in their daily activities in life to ensure a healthy body and a healthy mind.

The leader announced Rs 20,000 grant for the sports competition.

Thakur congratulated the school management and the teachers for organizing the sports competition. He urged the teachers to work with dedication for providing education to children.

School Principal Gajender Thakur welcomed the guests and stated that sports competitions would go on till July 17 and 230 girl students from 16 schools are participating.
