Son from Tamil Nadu missing since Kinnaur accident, father announces Rs 1 crore award

The father of a tourist from Tamil Nadu announced a reward of Rs 1 crore to anyone who finds his son who has been missing since an accident in Kinnaur district, officials said on Tuesday.

The Himachal Pradesh Police here today said that continuous efforts were being made to search and rescue missing Vetri Duraisamy (45), a resident of Chennai, Tamil Nadu and son of ex-Chennai Mayor, who is suspected to have been swept away in Sutlej river after a car he along with two others they were travelling in plunged into Sutlej river in Kinnaur district. In a press note issued here today, police said that search operation for the missing person continued for the third day.

The accident took place on February 4 near Kashang Nalah in Kinnaur district when Tanjin, driver of the vehicle, lost control and the vehicle plunged into Sutlej river. A police team from Reckong Peo along with a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) reached the spot as soon as it received the information and launched a rescue operation.

The team rescued Gopinath (32), a resident of Palayam, Vellakovil Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu from the river side and was rushed to Regional Hospital, Reckong Peo from where he was later referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Shimla for further treatment.

Police also recovered the dead body of Tanjin while Vetri Duraiswamy remains missing.

Joint search operation

NDRF, Police, Home Guards teams were joined by a team of Indo-Tibetan Border Police from the 17th Battalion and the Army. Search divers from Sundernagar, Mandi district also reached the spot while a team of Navy special divers has also been sent for search operation.
