Snow in Shimla, Kufri, Mashobra

Shimla and upper areas of the district received another spell of snow, disrupting traffic in upper Shimla. Kufri received 23 cm of snow followed by Khadrala and Mashobra 5 cm each and Shimla 3 cm.

Seven persons in two vehicles, including two women and an infant, who were stuck between Deha and Kheerki, while trying to reach Chopal last night, were rescued. A rescue team from Chopal and the PWD staff in JCB were sent from Chambi point and all stranded persons had been rescued, Deputy Commissioner, Shimla, Amit Kashyap said.

The supply of essential commodities to areas beyond Dhalli was delayed as roads were closed near Kufri, Narkanda, Khara Pathar and Kheerki due to slippery conditions. Machines were deployed to clear snow and the roads were opened to small vehicles around 3 pm, said SP, Shimla, Omapati Jamwal.

He said the people were advised not to travel after 7 pm as the roads would become slippery.

Ghamrooe was the wettest in the region with 47 mm of rain followed by Sangrah 39 mm, Jatton Barrage 28 mm, Shimla 22 mm, Rajgarh 21 mm, Paonta Sahib 20 mm, Jubbarhatti 19 mm, Nahan 17mm, Dharamsala 11 mm, Berthin and Dalhousie 10 mm each, Sujanpur Tira 9 mm, Sundernagar 8 mm, Bharari 7 mm, Hamirpur and Mandi 6 mm each, Nagrota Surian, Kahu, Rohru and Gaggal 5 mm each, Theog, Palampur, Jubbal and Jogindernagar 4 mm each, Nadaun and Baldwara 3 mm each.

Cold wave conditions aggravated in the region and Keylong was the coldest at night with minus 3.7 degree followed by Kufri minus 1.6 degree, Shimla 0.2 degree, Kalpa 0.8 degree, Dalhousie 1.7 degree, Manali 4 degree and Dharamsala 6.6 degree C.

The maximum temperatures decreased by 4 to 5 degree and Una with 24.6 degree was the hottest in day. The local MeT office has predicted rain and snow at isolated places in middle and high hills till February 23.
