Solan, November 27

A sudden fault in the power grid catering to Solan district from Pinjore and Panchkula disrupted power supply in various parts of the district including Solan, Baddi, Kandaghat, Chail, Kasauli and its surrounding areas for about six hours today.

Superintending Engineer, Solan, HP State Electricity Board Limited, Rakesh Thakur said some fault occurred in the grid around 10.15 am, owing to which the power supply was disrupted in many parts of the district. About 15 mega watt (MW) power was made available after three hours which was distributed to the regional hospital and some areas on the Mall Road at Solan. Additional 15 MW has been made available after nearly four hours for further distribution. As against 100 MW, barely 30 MW was available as the snag led to a cascading effect on the power infrastructure further aggravating the crisis.

Some tripping in power occurred in the morning as the infrastructure was overloaded due to excess power usage and this caused a fault in the grid, added Thakur.

Though the power supply was restored around 4 pm, power tripping was registered several times till late evening. — TNS
