Mandi, September 14

The Himachal Defense Women Welfare Association is helping the district administration to rehabilitate mentally-retarded women, who are living in streets, in Mandi district. Since 2016, it has helped six such women.

The association also brings to the notice of the district administration the cases of such desolate women so that they could be rehabilitated.

Recently, the administration rehabilitated one such woman following the intervention of Asha Thakur, president of the HP Defense Women Welfare Association, Mandi. A member of the association came to know about a mentally-retarded woman living in the streets of Mandi town. One night, miscreants tried to sexually abuse her. The incident alerted the members of the association who immediately informed the police. SP Shalini Agnihotri restored the woman to her family. Besides, the police have rehabilitated another old woman at the old-age home at Bhangrotu in the district. — TNS
