Solan, June 21

Acting on a report of the state Congress’ working president Harsh Mahajan, Pratibha Singh, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, today dissolved the Sirmaur District Congress Committee (DCC).

The decision was taken after the approval of the state in-charge Rajeev Shukla. Former minister GR Musafir has been entrusted with the task to look after the party’s organisation as per the orders issued by the party’s general secretary Rajneesh Kimta.

The immediate provocation seems to be last night’s incident where party’s district vice-president Rupinder Thakur had alleged that he was beaten up by DCC president Ajay Bahadur and former MLA Kirnesh Jung. Following this, an FIR was registered against the Congress leaders.

Taking a serious note of this incident at a time when Assembly elections were only months away, the PCC decided to dissolve the district faction of the Congress.

The development also follows weeks of resentment against DCC president Ajay Bahadur against whom a section of senior Congress leaders had raised a banner of protest. A resolution to remove him from the post was also sent to the PCC president as he had failed to convene any meeting of the DCC ever since he had taken charge more than a year ago.

Bahadur was also accused of weakening the party by failing to carry forward the party’s programmes and leaders alleged that he was working as the B team of the BJP.
