Shimla youths shine in 9th edition of MTB race

Rakesh Rana of Nainital won the 9th Hero MTB Shimla 2021 that concluded here today, while Akash Sherpa and Rajbir Singh of Shimla stood second and third.

About 100 riders participated in the race. The total distance was 130 km of which 100 km was competitive.

The highest elevation gain was 3,200 metres. The highlights of the route included the Kufri catchment, the Chail wildlife sanctuary, the Chail cricket stadium, the Shimla heritage and the climb of Janedghat.

As many as 40 riders were selected on the basis of “Road to Himalaya Races” organised in 12 cities — Gurugram, Bengaluru, Pune, Gandhidham, Ludhiana, Nainital, Belgaum, Chennai, Kota, Jaipur, Shimla and Srinagar, said president, Himalayan Adventure Sports and Tourism Promotion Association (HASTPA), Mohit Sood.
