900 police personnel deployed in Kullu-Manali | Traffic restrictions in place | SPG arrives

The Kullu administration has tightened the security in Kullu-Manali ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on October 3. Modi will inaugurate Atal Tunnel on the Manali-Leh highway, which will provide all-weather connectivity to residents of the Lahaul valley. The tunnel will cut short the distance from Manali to Leh by 46 km. The highway is strategically important for the Army.

Curbs on Manali to Solang route

  • The area has been divided into 15 sectors, which will be monitored by one officer
  • No person will be allowed to use drones for photography from Manali to Atal Tunnel
  • The movement of tourist vehicles has been stopped from Manali to Solang or Gulaba
  • People have been advised to avoid journey on the route till October 3

To ensure security and maintain the law and order situation in Kullu-Manali, 900 police personnel have been deployed. In the wake of the Covid outbreak, the authorities have decided to conduct Covid test of all police personnel on the PM’s security.

The whole area has been divided into 15 sectors, which will be monitored by one officer. No person will be allowed to use drones for photography from Manali to Atal Tunnel.

Talking to The Tribune, Superintendent of Police, Kullu, Gaurav Singh said “In the wake of the PM’s visit, the movement of tourist vehicles has been stopped from Manali to Solang or Gulaba. People have been advised to avoid journey from Manali to the Solang valley or Gulaba till October 3.”

The SP stated that 200 chairs would be available at the Solang valley for the common man. People have been advised to carry their identity cards with them.

“To regulate traffic movement, adequate police force will be deployed at key locations from Bajaura to the tunnel,” said the SP.

Meanwhile, a Special Protection Group (SPG) team reached Manali today.

Officials of the SPG will hold a meeting with administrative officials of Kullu and Lahaul & Spiti district and prepare an outline of security arrangements from Bhuntar to Sissu.
