Respite from piercing cold conditions, day temp rises in Himachal

The lower and mid hills of Himachal got some respite from piercing cold wave conditions as weather remained dry and the day temperatures rose by a few notches.

However, the tribal areas and other higher hills continued to reel under the cold wave and Keylong recorded a minimum temperature of minus 9.5°C, followed by Manali 0°C and Kalpa 0.4°C and Bhuntar 1.3°C.

Sundernagar, Solan and Palampur shivered at 3°C, 3.4°C and 5°C, while the mercury stayed at 9.2°C and 13.9°C at Shimla and Nahan, respectively, four degrees above normal.

Una was the hottest in the region as the day temperature rose to 28.4°C, while Solan, Sundernagar and Nahan were warmer during the day with the maximum temperatures of 26°C, 24.2°C and 24°C. Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest during the day also with a high of 2.6°C, followed by Kalpa 7.2°C and Kufri 13.1°C.

The post-monsoon rain deficit from October 1 to November 28 has further reduced to six per cent, as the state received 126 per cent excess rain during November. The local MeT office has predicted a dry weather in the region for the next six days from November 29 to December 4.
