Mandi, June 22
HPCC president Pratibha Singh today asked Congress activists to work hard to ensure the victory of the party in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Pratibha, while speaking at the one-day Chintan Shivir at Badiyal in Mandi district, urged the party workers to expose the failures of the state and Central governments. “Inflation has increased manifold during the BJP rule in the state and at the Centre, directly affecting common people. The BJP governments have done nothing to provide jobs to the youth and unemployment has increased sharply in the country,” she added.
She said that during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Himachal, people expected him to announce some financial assistance to bail out the state, but in vain.
The HPCC president alleged that Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur was inaugurating development projects, which were started by former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh during the Congress government.
Leader of the Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri said that Himachal was under a heavy debt due to poor governance. He asked the Chief Minister to avoid personal attacks on him. “If the Chief Minister is the leader of the ruling party, I am the Leader of the Opposition. If the Chief Minister talks against me at public meetings, I will respond in the same way”.
Senior Congress leader Kaul Singh Thakur said, “Jai Ram Thakur is an accidental Chief Minister, who has failed to ensure development in the state. The proposed airport in Mandi, the dream project of the Chief Minister, is still hanging fire”.
Shimla (Rural) MLA Vikramaditya Singh said that the BJP was dividing people on regional, caste and creed basis for political gains.
