PM Modi virtually lays stone of Baijnath-Paprola railway station

‘Tourism will get push due to expansion of railways’

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today said the work on railway projects worth Rs 13,168 crore was underway in Himachal Pradesh to provide better rail facilities to people.

The Governor was speaking at a programme organised at the Baijnath-Paprola railway station in Kangra district. He was present at the virtual inauguration and foundation stone-laying ceremony of redevelopment of 554 stations and 1,585 road overbridges and underpasses across the country under Amrit Bharat Yojana by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Baijnath-Paprola station, a road overbridge and an underpass have also been included in these projects.

The Governor expressed happiness that Baijnath-Paprola station would also be renovated under the Amrit Bharat station scheme and the people here would benefit from the increase in the inflow of tourists to Shiv Bhoomi Baijnath due to the construction of the station as per world class standards.

The Governor said in the Union Budget, a record Rs 2,681 crore had been allocated to the state for the development of railways. This was 25 times more than the average budget of Rs 108 crore from 2009 to 2014, he added.

The Governor said 49 route km had been electrified in the last 10 years in the state. Vande Bharat Train was also being run in Himachal, which was providing fast, easy and convenient travel facilities to the people of the state, he said, adding that Amb Andaura railway station of Himachal was being redeveloped to provide state-of-the-art rail facilities.

The Governor said work was also being done to give new impetus to the railway infrastructure in the state. He added that 1,300 stations in the country have been identified for the purpose.
