Shimla, September 15

Over 95 per cent students appeared in the final and second semester postgraduate courses examinations of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), which commenced today. Around 60,000 students are appearing in the examinations at 46 centres — seven on the university campus and 39 at postgraduate colleges.

The students were asked to reach examination centers an hour in advance and Covid-19 guidelines like thermal screening, maintaining social distancing, wearing masks and sanitisation were strictly followed.

The schedule is spread over a month as sufficient space was not available as per social distancing norm and the examinations would conclude in October. In case any students failed to appear in the examination due to Covid or some other unavoidable reason, he/ she would be given another chance.

The students have been given the option to appear at the nearest examination centre and question papers and other material was sent to examination centers in advance.

“The university has already conducted the final year undergraduate courses examination and evaluation of answer sheets being done in-house is in progress. The admissions to postgraduate courses will start after the declaration of results, strictly on merit basis,” said Vice-Chancellor of HPU Prof Sikander Kumar.

However, no decision has been taken regarding commencement of academic year and much will depend on the Covid situation and fresh guidelines issued by the MHA. To make up for the loss of studies, online teaching has been started in colleges where students have moved to next class on roll-on basis.
