One killed as boulder hits vehicle near Mandi

Stretch prone to accidents due to road widening work

A driver was killed when a boulder rolled down the hillside and hit his vehicle on the Chandigarh-Manali highway near Mandi today. The vehicle was badly damaged and the driver was killed on the spot due to severe injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Upender Kumar (30), a native of Una district. The police officials said he was on his way to Manali from the Mandi side.

The incident happened four miles away from Mandi. This road stretch is prone to such incidents, because road widening work is underway on this highway in the area.

Superintendent of Policem, Mandi, Shalini Agnihotri said the body would be handed over to his family for last rites after a post-mortem examination.
