Hamirpur, April 19

Anurag Thakur, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Sports, at a meeting here yesterday pulled up officials of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee for their lackadaisical attitude.

He said that it was unfortunate that illegal mining was continuing in the district but the department concerned was not acting against the mafia. He added that the alignment of roads under various projects was being changed to favour ‘some’ people.

Anurag said that the district administration must gear up to identify dumping sites for highway construction and ensure that tree felling be done according to norms. He added that compensation to affected people should be released promptly.

He told the officials concerned to speed up the construction of the campus of Dr Radhakrishanan Medical College and Hospital at Thai village near Rangas. He advised Dr Suman Yadav, Principal of Medical College, to make frequent visits to the campus site.

The minister directed the administration to identify 75 locations for water harvesting ponds. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wanted the construction of these water bodies for conservation purpose. Where land was not available, check dams on rivulets could be constructed, he added. —
