The State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) has ordered power supply disconnection of Amba Metals based at Kala Amb in Sirmaur district for continuous violation of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.

No production allowed

  • The SPCB has ordered power supply disconnection of Amba Metals based at Kala Amb in Sirmaur
  • The company has been directed to suspend all production activities and not to operate on a diesel generation set or any other source of energy

The company management continued to ignore norms and board officials had during inspection on April 28 found air pollution mitigation devices non-operational. Huge smoke was emanating from the factory, as its both induction furnaces were operating without side suction hoods or any other pollution control device.

Show-cause notices were issued to the company management on on December 1, 2021, and April 29 this year but it ignored them. The unit proved to be a habitual defaulter and continued to violate the provisions of the law. Its management did nothing tangible to prevent air pollution, according to the notice issued to the unit.

Board member secretary Apoorv Devgan directed the Executive Engineer, HP State Electricity Board Ltd, Kala Amb, to disconnect power supply to the unit. The company was directed to suspend all production activities and not to operate on a diesel generation set or any other source of energy. Non-compliance could attract a penalty of Rs 10,000 and imprisonment up to seven years.
