The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today arrested its former Superintendent of Police and IPS officer Arvind Digvijay Negi for allegedly leaking secret documents to an over-ground worker (OGW) of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Negi was posted as SP in Shimla. “During investigation, the role of Negi, posted as SP in Shimla (since repatriation from the agency), was verified and his houses were searched. It was found that official secret documents of the NIA were leaked by him to another accused person, who is an over-ground worker of Lashkar-e-Taiba,” the NIA said in a statement. The central agency said the case was registered on November 6 last year and pertained to the growing network of Lashkar OGWs in J&K and other places for providing support in planning and execution of terror activities in the country. The NIA had earlier arrested six persons in the case even as the investigation continued, it added.

Negi, a decorated officer, was part of the probe team that carried out searches at human rights activist Khurram Parvez’s residence in Srinagar in October 2020 in connection with an NGO-terror funding case.

He was awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service for his investigation into the Hurriyat terror funding case. Promoted to the IPS in 2016, he was repatriated to his cadre (HP) after the completion of 11 years and three months of deputation with the NIA. He had probed fake currency and IS recruitment cases during his stint with the anti-terror agency.
