New Education Policy aims to inspire job creators: Minister

Education Minister Govind Thakur today said that the New Education Policy (NEP) aimed at creating entrepreneurs and not job seekers.

He was speaking during a debate on the New Education Policy initiated by Rajeev Bindal and Rakesh Jamwal in the Vidhan Sabha under Rule 130. “To ensure that every educated youth is employable, a provision for vocational teaching from Class VI has been made. Also to be ensured is the training of students in a manner that they are capable of doing all kinds of work,” he said.

The minister said that the new policy had come after 34 years and it was applicable to the country. “The policy has set a target of ensuring quality inclusive education for all by 2030,” he said. The thrust would be on ensuring that the educated youth contribute towards building a society as envisaged in the Constitution, he added.

He said the thrust would be on teaching a foreign language along with Sanskrit and Hindi.

“Never before six per cent of the GDP has been spent on the education sector and efforts are being made to increase the allocation to make education affordable for all,” he added.

Deputy Speaker Hans Raj, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, Col Inder Singh (retd), Surinder Shourie, Balbir Singh Chaudhray, Kamlesh Kumari, Hira Lal, Jia Lal, Jawahar Thakur and Reena Kashyap also took part in the debate.
