Chamba, February 26

A Nepalese labourer was killed and another seriously injured when a crate wall collapsed along an under-construction road in the Bharmour subdivision of Chamba district yesterday.

The Bharmour police said labourers from a private company were involved in erecting the crate wall on the under-construction Greema-Khani link road when the wire supporting the crate work snapped, causing boulders to fall on the labourers.

Nepalese labourer Dipender Punn died on the spot, while Kishori Lal, a resident of Dapota village in Bharmour, was injured.

Other labourers rushed Punn and Lal to a nearby health facility, where Punn was declared dead on arrival. Lal was referred to Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College, Chamba, where his condition is reported to be stable.

Chamba Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav, said inquest proceedings had been initiated under Section 174 of the CrPC.

The body has been handed over to family members after the autopsy. An immediate relief of Rs 25,000 has been provided to his relatives.
