Mural by Himachal Pradesh Prof set to break world record

A mural (wall painting) over 28,991 sq m area at the Integrated Transit Corridor in New Delhi by Prof Him Chatterjee of Himachal Pradesh is all set to break a world record.

• Set to break record of biggest outdoor artwork till date — Incheon in South Korea

The artwork on Indian culture caught the eye of the PM, who inaugurated the corridor today. Terming it as “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat ka ek uttam education centre,” the PM suggested the tunnel should be closed for vehicles for 4-6 hours on Sunday and schoolchildren be allowed to visit it.

The mural, designed, conceptualised and drawn by Prof Chatterjee, Chairman, Department of Visual Arts, Himachal Pradesh University, is based on celebration of life through six seasons of India. It has six parts (the tunnel and five underpasses on both sides of the walls and central columns — 3.2 km approx).

The art drawn by Prof Chatterjee, refined on computer and produced in factory, is all set to break the record of biggest outdoor public artwork till date — Incheon, South Korea, a 23,680 sq m painting on a grain silo.
