Mandi rivulet turns into dumping site

THE dumping of garbage in the Skodi rivulet speaks volumes about the poor garbage disposal management in Mandi town. People residing alongside the rivulet throw garbage directly into it, near the Skodi bridge. The Municipal Council should take a strict action against such offenders. Interestingly, the town has the door-to-door garbage collection system, but people continue to pollute the rivulet. — Rakesh Kumar, Mandi

CCTV cameras not functional or missing

The Nurpur administration, in consultation with the Municipal Council (MC), had installed CCTV cameras at different locations in the town in 2015. However, all those cameras are either out of order or have disappeared, as no government agency bothered to maintain them. The supporters of drug peddlers and vendors of illicit liquor had objected to the installation of these cameras in some prime locations. With the cameras gone, the anti-social elements are having a field day. The administration should reinstall these CCTV cameras to check the movement of drug addicts and miscreants, especially at night. — Joginder Mehra, Nurpur
