Kullu, July 19

A downpour for just about 30 minutes inundated Manali town on Tuesday. Residents said the heavy rain made the Mall road and the police station road look like rivulets, besides flooding adjoining Model Town.

The nullahs of Bhajogi and Siyal were also swollen due to the incessant rain. Water and slush entered some hotels, houses, shops, offices and also the bus stand. A few buses suffered minor damages. The entrance to Manali town was blocked for some time as stones, along with mud, rolled downhill onto the road. However, no major loss was reported.

A tree branch fell on a vehicle near the Van Vihar road. There was no report of injury to anyone.

Manali SDM Surender Thakur said people should be cautious and keep in mind the warning issued by the Meteorological Department. “No one should go near rivers or rivulets. The administration is keeping an eye on the weather situation,” he added.
