Man buried alive as retaining wall falls

Shimla, July 16

A man was buried alive while another injured when a retaining wall collapsed following a landslide near the old barrier here today.

A police and fire brigade team rushed to the spot. Preliminary investigations revealed that three persons were taking rest under a rain shelter. However, it collapsed along with the retaining wall.

The deceased was identified as Pyara Lal (48), a resident of the Sunni area. His body was retrieved from the debris. Prem Lal (58), who sustained injuries, was taken to the IGMC, Shimla. The third person escaped unhurt.

The body of the victim was sent to the IGMC for postmortem and his family was also informed about the incident.

Meanwhile, the local MeT office has warned of heavy rain, thunderstorm and lightening at isolated places in mid hills on July 18 and in low and middle hills on July 19. It predicted a wet spell in the region till July 22.— TNS
