Nurpur, September 19

A salesman of a liquor shop at Jakhelahar village under Fatehpur police station in Kangra allegedly died of a gunshot last night. The victim, Rakesh Kumar (33), a resident of Sarela village, was working in the liquor shop for the past three years.

Locals heard a gunshot in the night and rushed to the spot. They found Rakesh’s body lying in a pool of blood along the veterinary dispensary near the liquor shop. Onkar Singh, DSP, Jawali, arrived there and seized the revolver used in the incident.

It seemed to be a case of suicide — the salesman may have shot himself dead with his country-made revolver — but the police declined to comment before the postmortem report arrived. A case under the Arms Act was registered.

Meanwhile, the Jawali police recovered the body of Jivan Kumar (38), a resident of Bhagwal village near Jawali, from a village well Saturday morning. He was a labourer. He was unmarried and an alcoholic and may have fallen into the well in an inebriated condition. A case had been registered. — OC
