Kullu youth, Sainj girl selected in IAF

Shalini Thakur of Sainj and Himanshu Sharma from Akhara Bazar, here, have cleared the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) and the Service Selection Board (SSB) examination. Now they will undergo training in Hyderabad from the second week of July.

Kullu National Cadet Corps (NCC) Air Wing ANO Flying Officer Nishchil Sharma said Shalini was a Cadet Senior Under Officer in the NCC batch 2015-18 and Himanshu Cadet Under Officer in the batch 2018-21. Both had been selected for Flying Officer training.

Shalini took the AFCAT exam in 2021 and took part in the SSB exam from January 30 to February 3, 2022. Himanshu also appeared in the AFCAT exam in 2021 and appeared in the SSB exam from December 6 to 11 last year.

Shalini is a resident of Sainj village and her mother Sapna Thakur is a housewife. Sapna was proud of the achievement of her daughter as she was the first girl in the valley to serve in the Air Force. Shalini’s father and grandfather have also served in the armed forces.

Himanshu’s father Umesh Sharma is an accountant, while mother Kanchan Sharma is a housewife.

He said he got this opportunity because of the NCC and thanked all officers for supporting and blessing him.
