Kullu cops conduct surprise checks at wedding events

Host of a function fined for violation of Covid norms

The police have launched awareness drives and also keeping a vigil on social functions to ensure adherence to the government order restricting attendance at all social, religious and political gatherings to 50.

Superintendent of Police (SP), Kullu, SP Gaurav Singh said a fine of Rs 5,000 was imposed on the host of a marriage function at Dadka village in the Lug valley in which people were found violating the Covid safety norms.

He said people were not maintaining social distancing and some of them were without masks. Legal action was taken and a challan was issued to the host under Sections 111 and 115 of the HP Police Act.

The SP said a police team found 30 persons at a wedding function at Hurcha village in the Sainj valley and they were instructed to follow the guidelines.

Police personnel also inspected marriage functions at Kachaini, Vakshal and Varmadi villages in the Sainj valley and apprised the gathering of safety norms. Less than 50 persons were found attending these functions and they were adhering to the norms.

The SP said a team of the Anni police and the Tehsildar checked a marriage ceremony at Kungash village and found that Covid protocols were followed by the organisers. He said the public was generally adhering to the norms.

The SP said the hosts should inform the administration before conducting social, political, cultural, religious or any other gathering. The police were coordinating with the naib tehsildars and tehsildars and those organising social functions were being pre-informed to ensure adherence to the norms.
