Keep vigil along borders with Punjab, orders Himachal DGP

Move comes in view of Assembly poll in neighbouring state

DGP Sanjay Kundu today reviewed the preparedness of the Baddi police at the inter-state borders in view of the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha elections in neighbouring Punjab. He directed the police to maintain vigil at the borders.

Three Assembly segments of Punjab (Rupnagar, Anandpur Sahib and Kharar) share borders with Baddi police district. The policemen posted at the borders have been sensitised and coordination is being established with the Punjab Police. Various inter-state barriers at Joghon, Sheetalpur, Barotiwala, Dhabota, Bagheri and Dheerowal in Baddi police district share borders with Punjab.

In Chamba district, Bakloh and Chowari have border with Punjab while in Kangra, places such as Chakki Bank, Kandwal, Indora, Damtal share border with the neighbouring state. Mehatpur in Una district shares border while Bassi in Bialspur is located in the proximity of Punjab.

Kundu said that similar meetings would be held in Bilaspur, Kangra, Una and Chamba districts. Meetings would also be held with Punjab counterparts for better coordination.

The DGP directed the Baddi police to deal effectively with Covid in view of the sudden surge. He said that Rs 8 crore had been collected as penalties till last evening from those found not wearing masks in the state.

Kundu lauded the efforts of the Baddi police for bagging the silver medal in the district category for evidence-based policing in e-governance through an effective network of over 2,000 CCTV cameras. He said that Rs 20 crore worth of property of criminals had been attached and habitual gamblers would also face similar action.
