Kasauli link road blocked, residents upset

Locally produced vegetable and fruits could not be transported to market for sale as the Sanawar-Shiller link road in Kasauli tehsil was yet to be cleared of debris and fallen trees even after three days. The road has been closed for vehicular traffic since Saturday after heavy rains blocked the access.

The blocking of the road has hit about 250 residents hard as they have to take a steep climb of about one km to reach the main road from another site.

The villagers, who grow vegetables like capsicum, tomatoes, bitter gourd, beans, brinjals, cucumber, etc, take the produce daily to the nearest market at Dharampur for sale. Since the shelf life of these vegetables is less, failure to sell them would result in losses to the villagers, said Ajay, a villager.

The delay in opening the road was also causing hardships to the ailing residents and pregnant women who had to visit hospitals for seeking medical help.

The villagers rued that it was regrettable that the authorities had adopted an indifferent attitude to their plight and they continued to suffer for days.
