Kasauli hoteliers upbeat as bookings pour in

Hoteliers in Kasauli are elated with bookings pouring in from various states after the government has opened the borders.

As much as 40 per cent to 70 per cent occupancy was registered last weekend in Kasauli though most tourists were from Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula. Most of the hotels have opened and a few are set to resume services to handle visitors’ influx.

Rocky Chimni, vice-president, Kasauli Residents and Hoteliers’ Association (KRHA), said, “Queries are pouring in from Punjab and Delhi for bookings ranging from one to five days and the staff are being recalled. We want to ensure that all safety measures are in place to welcome the visitors.”

There had been no business for the past six months. Now, the hoteliers are hopeful of receiving some customers as educational institutes are still closed and families could venture to the hills. “As of now, only weekend bookings were pouring in, but we expect better days ahead. Business will hopefully revive as the weather is perfect for holidaying in the hills,” said Winnie Chadha, adviser, KRHA. He added, “The staff too are eager to return to work as the hoteliers are in a position to pay them.”

Being a favourite weekend tourist destination, the hoteliers are now banking on weddings which are slated to take place in the last three months. “Bookings with limited gatherings are being made now and this is a welcome relief as it will fetch them some business. There is little chance of corporate clients, who held conferences here,” added Chimni.

Since most hotels are yet to repay their banks loans in the Kasauli planning area, the revival of business has infused a fresh lease of life in them.
