Mandi, April 20

The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has started its Volvo bus service between Lahaul and Delhi. It was for the first that the HRTC has introduced luxury bus service on this route.

Tashi Sonam, chairperson of Block Development Council, Lahaul, flagged off this bus service from Jispa today in which four passengers were on board. He was accompanied by the Regional Manager (RM) of HRTC Depot at Keylong Mangal Manepa and other local people at Jispa in Lahaul and Spiti district.

Manepa said the Volvo bus would start from Jispa at 3 pm for Delhi and from Delhi to Jispa at the same time every day. The one-way fare is Rs 2,039.

He said the HRTC was earlier providing ordinary bus service between Lahaul and Delhi and its bus fare was Rs 1,135. After the opening of Atal Tunnel on Manali-Leh highway, the tourist influx has increased to Lahaul valley from Delhi and Chandigarh considerably.

“So, in order to provide better transportation facilities to the Lahaul from Delhi and Chandigarh for tourists, the HRTC has decided to introduce Volvo bus service on this route. It is expected that in the coming days it will draw good response from tourists. If this bus receives good response, the HRTC will run more such buses on this route to provide better transportation facilities to the tourists on this route,” he said.

The travel distance between Jispa and Delhi is 684 km and the journey will take almost over 17 hours to complete. The Regional Manager said the bus would start from Jispa at 3pm and reach at Delhi around 8:30 am. Similarly, from Delhi it will leave for Jispa at 3pm and reach its destination at around 8:30 am. This bus will go via Kullu, Bilaspur, Chandigarh and Delhi.
