Shimla, March 23

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today announced complete lockdown in the state, which would result in all inter-state and intra-state public and private transportation being halted.

Making an announcement on the floor of the Vidhan Sabha, the Chief Minister said there was no cause for panic and that it was being done as a precautionary measure to prevent coronavirus infection from outside the state. The government had ordered a lockdown in Kangra district yesterday where two Covid positive cases have been reported. One of the infected, being treated at the Tanda Medical College, Kangra, died today.

Thakur assured the members that the state authorities — including health, police and those associated with the supply of essential commodities — would continue to work to the best of their ability. He said so far 1,237 persons with travel history had been kept under surveillance of which 426 had completed the mandatory 28-day isolation period. Also, 667 persons were undergoing home isolation. Only two of the 71 persons had tested positive. The Assembly was adjourned sine die after passing the Budget proposals.
