Dharamsala, November 10

President of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) Lobsang Sangay has expressed hope that the new US President-elect Joe Biden will keep his promise and meet the Dalai Lama and impose sanctions on China over human rights violations in Tibet.

During a press briefing today, the Sikyong said he would visit the US. Congratulating Biden again, the Sikyong said, “I wish Biden and Vice- President-elect Kamala Harris success in overcoming the challenges ahead of them. I would like to thank Biden on behalf of all Tibetans for his promise that he had made and meet the Dalai Lama. It is rare for a Presidential candidate to express it publicly during his election campaign.”

He also acknowledged the Trump government’s support to the Tibetan cause, counting him among the strongest supporters and highlighted the passage of the Reciprocal Access to Tibet Act and increased funding to Tibetan administration and people.

He noted that the appointment of Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues Robert Destro was a significant step, a shift from the previous US foreign policy on China, implying the stronger US-Tibet relations.
